How This Retirement Corpus Calculator Works

This Retirement Corpus Calculator (India) estimates how much money you may need at retirement to maintain your current lifestyle, after adjusting for inflation and your expected investment returns.

Steps Used in the Calculation

  • Step 1: We calculate how many years are left until your retirement.
  • Step 2: Your current monthly expenses are grown at the inflation rate to estimate monthly expenses at retirement.
  • Step 3: We assume your expenses continue for your chosen life expectancy and use a “real” rate of return (post-retirement return minus inflation) to estimate the retirement corpus required.
  • Step 4: Your existing investments are compounded at the pre-retirement return to estimate their future value at retirement.
  • Step 5: The gap between required corpus and existing future value is used to estimate the monthly SIP needed until retirement.

Important Notes & Assumptions

  • The calculator assumes constant inflation and constant returns over the full period.
  • Post-retirement returns are considered more conservative than pre-retirement returns.
  • The calculation uses a simplified formula and does not account for taxes, changes in lifestyle, or one-time expenses.
